Comments : Although the post is fulltime, an 80 per cent time stipulation could be negotiated.

1 year contract

 

Objectives :

    • To write and edit news stories for ENI.
    • To work as part of the ENI team in developing it as a news agency covering religious, ecumenical and humanitarian affairs.
    • To maintain and develop contacts with journalists to create a better understanding for ecumenical news.

 

Liaises with:

News agencies, religious and secular journalists in both print and electronic media, ENI correspondents, news and information offices in the Ecumenical Centre.

 

Reports to:

Editor-in-Chief

 

Specific areas of responsibility :

 

    • To carry out editorial duties as assigned to ensure news coverage of religious, ecumenical and humanitarian affairs, and other issues relevant to the life of the churches, both in Geneva and on assignment.
    • To research and check material for publication, and sub-edit articles received from ENI's correspondents around the world.
    • To produce copy for promotional material and assist in other aspects of the work of ENI, such as fundraising.
    • As part of the staff to assist in:
      • Maintaining and expanding a network of correspondents.
      • ensuring accurate translation of ENI articles between English and French.
      • developing strategies for increasing the subscriber base and for identifying and approaching potential new sponsors and other potential funders.
    • To perform other duties as required.

Qualifications :

 

    • English first language; good knowledge of French. Abilities in German, Italian or Spanish would also be an asset;
    • Relevant journalistic training, preferably with a diploma or degree in journalism or related field;
    • Professional experience on a secular or religious newspaper, magazine or news service with some editing experience;
    • Good keyboard and word processing skills, knowledge of desk-top publishing an advantage;
    • Sensitivity to cultural, confessional and linguistic diversity;
    • Good knowledge of world affairs, churches, religious affairs and Ecumenism.
